Benue PDP stakeholders held a press conference on August 20, 2024, to address the state of affairs in the party. They emphasized the need for peace, unity, and respect for authority to move the party forward.
The stakeholders acknowledged challenges arising from the ongoing elective congresses but saw them as a natural fallout from the exercise. They commended the National Working Committee, led by Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum, for their direction and support.
The stakeholders expressed gratitude to the National Ward Congress Committee and the National Ward Congresses Appeal Panel for their work in conducting the Ward congresses and addressing petitions. They welcomed the Caretaker State Working Committee, led by AVM (Rtd.) Napoleon Bali, and commended the National Local Government Congress Committee for their work.
The stakeholders passed a vote-of-confidence on the National Working Committee, the Leader of the PDP in Benue State, His Excellency Samuel Ortom, and the Senate Minority Leader, Distinguished Senator Patrick Abba Moro. They also passed a vote-of-confidence on the Caretaker State Working Committee.
The stakeholders urged the Benue PDP family to close ranks and place the interests of the party above individual or group interests. They encouraged those who succeeded in the Ward and Local Government Executive Committees to be magnanimous in victory and reach out to those who aspired alongside them.
The stakeholders called for adherence to the laws of the party and urged members to resolve disputes internally. They encouraged aggrieved members to withdraw court cases and abide by the party’s laws.
